Workshop on the Jordan Scenarios Project 2030

The Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) at the University of Jordan held a workshop on the Jordan Scenarios 2030 Project from June 14-15. The aim of the workshop was to review the sectoral policies that had been prepared by both Jordanian experts and experts in the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) - Beirut, in coordination with professors and members of the project committee and in order to agree on a final version of the paper on sectoral policies as well as the future recommendations emanating therefrom. The most important results of the review will be applied through CGD by UNESCWA in cooperation with the project's technical committee.

It should be noted that the Jordan Scenarios Project 2030 is a national project that was launched at the end of 2013 at the University of Jordan and is being implemented by CSS. The overall objective of the project is to assess the future challenges that Jordan might face depending on the various paths and possibilities that are available, then build scenarios that can contribute to a systematic and realistic model of development for the future. The project thus seeks to develop possible scenarios (best, worst, and most realistic) in light of these concerns, making policy recommendations to decision-makers with the support of both government and non-state actors.

One of the goals of the projects is the development of a five-year plan based on the preferred scenario, which will be initiated after completion of the draft scenarios and which will coincide with the centenary of Jordan's founding. The importance of the project is that it falls in line with future observance studies and depends on its ability to define potential paths and possible outcomes as related to the overall development process and in light of at least three possibilities. Policy recommendations, as such, will help decision-makers to either avoid or implement the specific scenarios at hand.
